Fitness fiend Jack LaLanne died on January 23, 2011 at the age of 96. Born on September 26, 1914 in San Francisco, CA, “The Godfather of Fitness” was a leader in the world of exercise and fitness. He had long espoused the benefits of exercise and nutrition. He was well known to audiences in America as a fitness guru, motivational speaker, and nutritional expert. A celebrity in his own right, he never lost his enthusiasm for physical well being and continued to share his knowledge even in his later years.

The Early Years of Jack LaLanne

Jack LaLanne’s focus on fitness began at the young age of 15. After listening to Paul Bragg talk about the benefits of nutrition on a person’s health, Jack was hooked. He began to focus on his own nutritional intake and fitness, leaving his sugar addict’s habits behind him. Jack learned all that he could by studying Henry Gray’s Anatomy of the Human Body. He focused on chiropractic medicine, weight lifting, and body building, which was definitely not the norm in 1930.
